Job Description
Business Manager

Purpose of the Job: To oversee and manage the accounting and financial reporting functions of the church.

Schedule: Part time hourly; 3-5 hours per week (average of 12- 16 hours per month, with the exception of the annual budget time period – which bumps the monthly hours up a bit.)

Reports to: Senior Pastor, Finance Committee

Job Duties:

  • Oversee all bookkeeping and accounting functions using Power Church accounting software.

Volunteers and other staff prepare & approve accounts payable and record & post contributions.

  • Calculate and process payroll monthly checks; complete and file monthly, quarterly and annual payroll tax reports.
  • Reconcile all monthly, quarterly bank accounts and investment accounts as needed.
  • Post all transactions from sub ledgers into the Fund Accounting general ledger, ensuring that fund and account numbers are accurate.
  • Prepare journal entry transactions as needed to maintain complete and accurate financial records.
  • Manage cash flow to ensure funds are available for accounts payable and payroll.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and attend Finance Committee meetings.
  • Prepare and distribute quarterly committee budget reports.
  • Compile annual committee and administrative budget requests and project annual income for future budgets.
  • Prepare reports for state and local governments and for church governing bodies as needed.
  • Advise and assist with large organizational projects requiring financial expertise.
  • Respond to requests for information from banks, lenders, vendors and other outside sources when appropriate.
  • Review and advise on all contractual agreements with a financial impact.
  • Ensure that Power Church software and users are updated as needed.
  • Provide back up for the Office Manager as needed on Accounts Payable and contribution posting.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of personal information for staff and congregation members.


  • Strong experience with general ledger transactions; full charge bookkeeping experience preferred.
  • Good understanding of sub ledgers and general accounting principles.
  • General understanding of fund accounting.
  • Ability to work in an environment with numerous distractions.
  • Accounting degree or college level courses are desirable.
  • Commitment to the Christian faith and teachings.
