Job Opening: Nursery Attendant

Nursery Attendant

The Nursery Attendant provides safe, clean, and nurturing care in a Christian nursery environment for infants and young children up to school age. Part time hourly 6 to 8 hours per week.

Schedule:  Sunday 9:00 a.m.to 11:00 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to the Christian faith and teachings
  • Experience caring for babies and preschool children
  • Must pass a background and reference check
  • Current Child/Infant CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain certification within three months
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds; get down and up from the floor; bend, stoop and twist holding light objects; reach overhead with a light load, and walk at least  50 yards while supervising children
  • Fluent bilingual English and Spanish preferred

Pay rate:  $10 – $12 her hour for 6-8 hours per week.

Job Description

Purpose of the Job: To provide safe, clean, and nurturing care in a Christian environment for infants and young children up to school age.

Schedule:  Part time hourly up to 8 hours per week during worship services, adult Sunday School, and ESL classes.

Reports to: Christian Education Chairpersons and Staff/Parish Relations Liaison

Job Duties: 

  • Prepare and post an outline of activities for the week, including a learning theme and special crafts or stories.
  • Greet children and parents upon arrival: assure parents complete the check-in sheet, belongings are labeled, and children have a name tag.
  • Direct children to the appropriate room and help them find an interesting toy or activity while parents leave.
  • Comfort infants and assure their safety around older children.
  • Play with children down at their level or direct their play, read stories, and help with simple crafts as children are able; relate activities to the weekly theme and explain them in words the children can understand.
  • Provide a regular toilet routine for children; check and change diapers as needed and document on parent information sheet.
  • Pray with children before snack time and/or near the closing time.
  • Oversee children leaving with an approved adult; complete parent information sheet and review with parents during pick up.
  • Clean and straighten the nursery rooms after children leave. Disinfect toys and surfaces at least bi-weekly. Put all used toys away to be disinfected.
  • Attend required training determined by SPRC and/or church policy including Safe Sanctuaries
  • Lead Nursery Attendant:
    • Manage discipline issues in collaboration with parents
    • Purchase or order supplies within budget limits
    • Notify the office and/or Trustee Chairperson of needed repairs
    • Attend Christian Education meetings
    • Coordinate weekly themes and activities with curriculum used in Children’s Church
